Why We Give

Everything we do at Blue Ridge Baptist Church happens through your generous and faithful giving.  All gifts – no matter the size – make a difference. Together, we’re helping more people experience a life-changing relationship with Jesus – transforming lives within our church, our community, and around the world.  The greatest act of love and generosity was God giving his son, Jesus, for us.  We're compelled by His example to be a generous type of people.  Giving our time, talents, and money is simply our natural response to the generosity of a good, good Father.

If you’re ready to give, we have several options that make giving to our church easy, safe and secure.  Using the information below you can choose to give online, through text giving on your mobile phone, or during worship service.

  • > What type of donations do you accept?

You can make a one-time donation by eCheck, debit, or credit card, give through your bank account, or set up recurring donations.

  • > Can I donate services?

Volunteer services are always accepted and appreciated.  You may call the church office or send an email to determine our needs and make arrangements.

    • You can’t deduct the value of your time spent performing unpaid work for a church. If you take time off from your job to perform volunteer church work, you can’t deduct the value of the lost income. You also can’t deduct personal or family expenses, such as babysitting costs, you incurred because of your volunteer church work.
    • The IRS does not give a tax deduction for the hours spent at a charity. It doesn't matter how valuable your time is or how long you spend at your church, you won't get any benefit for your taxes. Even if you're a professional donating your services, like a carpenter building furniture for free, you still will not receive a tax deduction
  • > Is there a tax deduction for donations?

    • Only Itemizers Can Deduct Donations.
    • In 2018 the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act ("TCJA") roughly doubled the standard deduction. So beginning in 2018, no more than about 5% of all taxpayers itemized because of the increased Standard Deduction.
    • When you prepare your federal tax return, the IRS allows you to deduct the donations you make to churches. Blue Ridge Baptist Church operates solely for religious and educational purposes, your donation will qualify for the tax deduction. As long as you itemize your deductions, you can generally claim 100 percent of your church donations as a deduction.
    • Always refer to IRS Publication 1771, Charitable Contributions–Substantiation and Disclosure Requirements, for an explaination of current federal tax law for organizations, such as charities and churches, that receive tax-deductible charitable contributions and for taxpayers who make contributions.
